Around here I talk about four pillars to dressing well. They are
(1) your best colors,
(2) your best shapes,
(3) your personal style, and
(4) your lifestyle.
Here I'll walk you through how to shop for jackets that reflect each of these four areas.
Happy shopping!
1.
Which capsule(s) will it coordinate with?
If you've followed me for long at all, you know that I'm an advocate for a Lifestyle Wardrobe over a Capsule Wardrobe. This means you'll actually have several capsules, one for each activity in your regular life and each season.
Whether you're in the market for a blazer, jean jacket, utility jacket, or something else, consider the outfits you'll pair with it and what kind of activity you'll do in it. In other words, decide which capsule you'll be buying a jacket for.
You can learn all about building a lifestyle wardrobe in CURATED, my style course for women who aren't sure it's okay to think about what they wear.
Once you've narrowed it down to a certain style, you can choose the color and cut that are best for you and that reflect your own personality.

2.
A neutral or pop color
Whether you choose a jacket in a neutral or a pop color, your jacket should be in one of your best colors. This will make you look your best, draw attention to your eyes and away from any problem areas, and will coordinate with anything else in your closet if you stick to your best color palette.

3.
Cropped, hip-length, or thigh-length
Where the bottom hem of your jacket hits will be key in creating a great silhouette. You'll want to avoid having it hit at your widest part.
That means if you're bigger on the bottom, avoid having the hem of your jacket hit at your hips. You could go with a longer style or a cropped jacket.
If you're fuller in the chest, you'll avoid cropped jackets and go for something that hits right at the hip bone. You'll also want to avoid anything that adds bulk up top, like breast pockets or collar or shoulder details.

4.
Now choose what you like
Now that you've narrowed down ALL the jacket options by considering what will fit your capsule, which ones are in your best colors, and which are a great cut for you, you are left with only a few choices.
This is good news!
Having only a few really good options is much better than having a ton of choices and no direction. If you've followed the first three steps, you know that in this step you can't go wrong.
Anything you choose from the options still available to you at this point in the process are going to be fabulous! You KNOW they'll work in your wardrobe, mixing and matching to create a TON of outfits, it will be in a color that looks amazing on you, and that the cut will flatter your shape.
Now all you have to do is decide which style fits your Style Keywords -- the combination of who you are and who you aspire to be.
I get it. It's hard to curate a wardrobe you love without the guilt of spending time and energy on yourself, and you've already got a lot going on. It doesn't have to be complicated; you're allowed to let it be easy.
In this course, I'll walk you through how to uncover your personal style so you can build a wardrobe you're excited to wear without the frustration of buying things you "think" will work, just to find out they don't coordinate with anything else you have or work with your lifestyle.
CURATED is currently a magazine-style course with lots of image examples and super visual. But (this is new and super exciting!) I am also working on recording videos for the full course!
In the meantime, you can get in at the Founding Members' price of $97. This price will go up as videos and bonuses are added, so jump in now while the price is fine!
